Elkton Elementary School Gymnasium & Classroom Building

This project involved the construction of a new pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) to serve as a full-size gymnasium for the Elkton School District, with three classrooms, new restrooms, and two team rooms. The new gym has six hoops, room for two volleyball courts side-by-side, and a set of bleachers.

This was a design-build collaboration with AC+CO Architecture. Early coordination between our teams allowed for efficient floor plan development and helped minimize change orders during construction. S+B James also took a proactive role in maintaining momentum by coordinating closely with subcontractors, local permitting authorities, and the district. Our collaborative approach prevented delays and supported clear communication across all project stakeholders.

Key elements of the building were self-performed by S+B James, including footing and slab-on-grade concrete work, primary PEMB erection, and rough carpentry. The remaining MEP systems and finish work were closely managed to ensure quality execution and timely completion. The project was successfully delivered on schedule and within budget.
