The 6,000 square foot Jacksonville Fire Station underwent an impressive seismic retrofit and remodel, featuring a new second story while meticulously preserving its historic charm, thanks to approval from the Historic & Architectural Review Commission. The seismic retrofit prioritized safety by installing 103-driven pipe piles to strengthen the foundation and modern structural enhancements, as well as adding new stud walls with plywood sheathing to the under-reinforced CMU walls with masonry ties, new steel frame drag beams at the large bay doors, and attachment of the roof diaphragm to masonry walls.

The new second floor expands the facility’s capabilities, adding residential quarters and a gym, turning it into a vital emergency center. Exciting upgrades include a state-of-the-art emergency generator, an elevator, a spiral fireman slide, and modernized HVAC and electrical systems. This revitalized fire station enhances operational efficiency and stands ready to serve the community during emergencies.
